Sound Pest Management: Controlling Ants
When you have an ant infestation, you are invaded by hundreds, if not thousands, of ants. They crawl through your house or building in search of food. They are – it can seem – everywhere.
That’s where Sound Pest Management comes in. Since 2002, we’ve been working with customers to get rid of their carpenter ant infestation. Our expert pest control pros understand ants, how they live and why they do what they do. This knowledge and experience helps us to get rid of the ants and make sure they don’t come back.
A Bit About Ants
All ants live in colonies of many, many ants. Some colonies have hundreds of ants. Some have tens of thousands of ants. Most ants in the colonies are called workers and their job is to find food. These are the ants you see in your garden or at a picnic. If you have an infestation in your house, these are the ants you find swarming your kitchen or anywhere else they find food.
Ants eat live or dead insects, as well as anything that is sweet. When workers find food, they lead other workers to the food by depositing a chemical message on the ground as they crawl back to the nest. Although we can’t smell the chemical trail, the other ants cans smell it for quite some time. This is why they are called odorous house ants.
Odorous house ants, which get their name from the strong coconut-like smell they give off when crushed, nest in many different types of places. Outdoors, their nests are usually shallow and may be found just underneath the soil surface. These nests may be found in mulch, soil, debris, logs, stumps, under stones and under plastic tarps. Indoors, nests are usually found in wall voids, around hot-water pipes and heaters, behind paneling, under carpets or beneath the floor.
